Curtis Lee Mayfield

(June 3, 1942 – December 26, 1999) was an American soul, R&B, and funk singer-songwriter, guitarist, and file producer, who was some of the influential musicians behind soul and politically acutely aware African-American music. He first achieved success and recognition with the Impressions throughout the Civil Rights Motion of the late Fifties and Nineteen Sixties, and later labored as a solo artist.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mayfield began his musical profession in a gospel choir. Shifting to Chicago’s North Aspect he met Jerry Butler in 1956 on the age of 14, and joined vocal group the Impressions. As a songwriter, Mayfield grew to become famous as one of many first musicians to deliver extra prevalent themes of social consciousness into soul music. In 1965, he wrote “Individuals Get Prepared” for the Impressions, which displayed his extra politically charged songwriting.

Ranked at no. 24 on Rolling Stone’s checklist of the five hundred Best Songs of All Time, the music obtained quite a few different awards, and was included within the Rock and Roll Corridor of Fame 500 Songs that Formed Rock and Roll, in addition to being inducted into the Grammy Corridor of Fame in 1998.  Wiki
