Sixteen-year-old singer-songwriter Deedee Austin, of Abegweit First Nation, has swept up the Music Nova Scotia Awards.

Austin gained awards in two classes: Indigenous Artist of the Yr and New Recording Artist of the Yr. She was additionally nominated in two others.

“(It’s) so surreal,” she stated.

Austin began making music when she was simply 11 years previous, and launched her first single at 14. She launched her first EP a 12 months later, and now has three singles out.
